Behind the Mask: Discipline

Updated: Dec 2, 2019

2019 Jacksonville Spartan Super

Q: What does your call sign mean to you?

A: I did not pick my call sign, it was given to me by a MAT team member, and someone who I served with during my time in the Marines. This makes Discipline even more meaningful to me because it is already a trait that I continuously try to hone and utilize to improve myself in any way possible. To me, Discipline is the ultimate measure of self-accountability, being reliable, and having the ability to accomplish both the rigorous and mundane tasks with the same amount of energy and focus required to succeed.

Q: What branch of the military or LEO did you serve in (or are currently serving in), for how long, and what was your job?

A: I served as a Marine Corps Infantryman from 2005 – 2009 with two combat deployments to Al-Anbar Providence, Iraq.

Q: Why did you commit to the Masked Athlete program?

A: It is a program that allows me to continue to serve my country by working with our nations wounded military and law enforcement officer.

Q: Motto or principle you live by.
A: ‘Living The Dream’ & ‘Easy Day’

Q: What piece of advice would you give someone who is interested in becoming a MAT?

A: Attend our events, ask questions, and get to know our honorees, OCAs, and MAT members, and know we are expecting commitment.

Q: What would you like people to know about OEW?

A: Everyone is able to fill a valuable role in our organization to allow us to be better at our mission of serving our veteran and law enforcement population.

Q: What is your favorite event and why?

A: The Ruck to Remember has been my favorite event thus far. It is long, exhausting, and not for the feint at heart, but incredibly rewarding and emotional upon reaching the memorials and Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day.
