Q: What does your call sign mean to you?
A: My call sign is Sacrifice. I wear it to represent those that have been injured but just as important, to show that our injuries don't define us, we do.
Q: What branch of the military did you serve in (or are currently serving in), for how long, and what was your job?
A: I served in many aspects as a military policeman in the US Army. Proudly served for 11 1/2 years as a patrolman, investigator, desk sergeant, combat MP, squad leader and Special Reaction Team Member.
Q: Why did you commit to the Masked Athlete program?
A: Because I was on the brink of suicide and a team athlete reached out to me. He issued a challenge along with a promise. The challenge was to prepare for a Spartan Race and the promise was that no matter what, I would finish. I finished with a bunch of people behind me who made me feel like I could do anything.
Q: What piece of advice would you give someone who is interested in becoming a MAT?
A: The first is to make sure that you train harder than you ever trained before. All phases are going to challenge you, but the physical portion is the one that will test you most.
Q: What is the most challenging thing about being a MAT?
A: Not being able to be around each other all the time because we all live all over the Country. Once you become MAT member, this is your family.
Q: Motto or principle you live by.
A: The best way to overcome challenges and obstacles in your life, is to help others with theirs. (That used to be a figurative quote and now it's literal.)
Q: What is the best thing about being a MAT?
A: Watching the faces of the Honorees, their family members, and the crowd as an Honoree crosses the finish line conquering their challenges.
